Thinking of Installing LED Downlights – Part 2 - Carlyia, Salisbury

Another consideration when installing new LED down lights (spot lights) at your Salisbury home is the colour of the light they emit.

LED Downlight Jargon Buster

  •  “Watts” this is the power consumed and equates to running costs
  •  “Lumens” is the amount of light produced  and is the brightness
  •  “Kelvin” (k) is the measurement of the colour of the light and this ranges from a yellowish light to a blueish light.

We will talk about Kelvin in more depth here.

Colour Temperature of LED Downlights

The Colour Temperature or “Kelvin? ranges from around 2000k to 6500k and I will give you a guide to where different colours may be used.  Although ultimately it is up to you how you want to set the right lighting tone for your Salisbury homes different area’s.

At around 2700k – 3200k will produce a slight yellow light and a nice warm glow and is typically used in your bedrooms or lounge areas where want to relax and rest. This colour range is know as “Warm White”

At around 4000k I would use these in Kitchen areas and areas where you want good light for various tasks. This temperature of colour is known as “Cool White”

For 6000k and above would be for areas where you want natural daylight for example for painting or drawing where being able to see true colours undistorted by yellowing of the normal lighting. This temperature range is known as “Natural Daylight”

You can also mix these colours such as the bathroom, where you may choose to have soft warm lighting for your general lighting for this area .But, when it comes to  applying makeup you may want your mirror to light up in 4000k so that you have good task lighting to help with it’s application.
