Are you a homeowner in Salisbury looking for a reliable, local electrician to carry out an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report)? Whether you’re buying, selling, or simply keeping your home safe, an up to date EICR is essential.
EICR Electrician Salisbury
At Carlyia, our qualified electricians provide in-depth EICRs for homeowners across Salisbury. We’re NICEIC accredited, experienced and local to Salisbury - all of this helps us provide a personalised, prompt, high quality service. Our EICRs are detailed but don’t worry, we’ll break it all down in terms you’ll understand. That’s why we’re different from our competitors - larger, nationwide contractors lack the time to be attentive to their customers, sadly you become just another number. Not with Carlyia though, with us, you’ll receive an unmatched level of customer service.
What is an EICR?
An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a detailed inspection of your property’s electrical system. It checks the safety and condition of wiring, sockets, fuse boards, and other electrical installations to identify any faults or deterioration that could cause electric shock or fire. An EICR isn’t just a piece of paperwork - it’s your assurance that your home’s electrics are safe and compliant with the BS 7671 Wiring Regulations. It’s also documented proof of this - something you’ll need if you’re a Landlord or you're looking to sell up.
When do you need an EICR?
You may need an EICR in several situations:
- Buying or selling a home: If you’re selling your Salisbury property, an EICR reassures potential buyers that the electrical system is safe. If you’re buying, it helps you avoid unexpected repair costs later - similar to a home survey but focused purely on electrics.
- Renting: Under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020, landlords must have an EICR carried out every 5 years (or sooner if recommended). You must provide tenants with a copy of the latest report and fix any issues within 28 days.
- Home renovations: Even if you’re not buying or selling, it’s wise to have an EICR:
Every 10 years for homeowners.
Every 5 years for rented homes or businesses.
After any major electrical work or flooding/fire damage.
If your Salisbury home hasn’t had an inspection in the last decade, it’s time to book one with your local electrician. If you’re based in Salisbury, that’s us - Carlyia!
What will happen during an EICR?
During an EICR inspection, a qualified electrician from Carlyia will:
- Visually inspect your consumer unit (fuse board), sockets, switches, and wiring.
- Test circuits for faults.
- Check earthing and bonding to prevent electric shock risks.
- Identify wear and tear or damage.
- Provide a detailed written report noting anything that needs attention.
Understanding EICR codes
An EICR uses codes to determine which, if any faults need immediate attention. Here’s a list of each code and what they mean in language you’ll understand.
- C1 (danger present): Something is immediately unsafe and needs fixing right away.
- C2 (potentially dangerous): Not immediately unsafe, but could become dangerous if left as is. Should still be repaired ASAP to avoid further risk or damage.
- C3 (improvement recommended): Safe to use, but doesn’t meet the latest wiring standards. We’d still strongly recommend an upgrade here.
- FI (further investigation required): Something has been found that needs more testing or inspection. To pass this fault, further testing will need to be carried out.
