If you’re a private landlord letting agent in Ringwood, you do need an EICR of the property every 5 years to make sure electrical installations are fault free, energy efficient and compliant with Building Regulations

Do I need an EICR? Advice from your local electrician in Ringwood.

Although an EICR is not mandated for homeowners, Carlyia Ltd do recommend an EICR every 10 years to keep an eye on your home’s electrical systems. As NICEIC approved electricians, we have the skills and expertise to conduct an EICR or Electrical Installation Condition Report as well as providing guidance on any remedial work your property might need.

What is an EICR? What does an EICR electrician in Ringwood do?

An EICR is an extensive inspection of electrical installations at dwellings. A qualified electrician who is NICEIC approved should be used to identify electrical faults with lighting, outlets and switches, the consumer unit and additional electrical systems. As well as looking for signs of damage, wear and tear, the main purpose is to make sure electrical installations such as wiring and circuits are compliant with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.

Carlyia Ltd conducts visual checks and electrical testing using advanced technology to identify issues during an EICR.

How long does an EICR take to complete?

An EICR at an average size three bedroom house would typically take the team anywhere between 2-5 hours. We recently carried out an EICR on Chard Lane in Ringwood which worked in line with the landlord’s busy schedule. We were able to conduct an EICR with ample time for any remedial work prior to a new tenancy agreement starting in a few weeks time.

If the property in question has additional electrical systems such as EV chargers or solar panels, extra time should be allocated during an EICR as these systems will need to be inspected too.

What if an EICR is unsatisfactory?

An "unsatisfactory" outcome means the electrical installations are unsafe and that a number of C1 or C2 hazards were identified during the EICR. Examples of hazards include visible damage to outlets such as burns or cracks, live wires escaping out of sockets or lacking RCD protection in bathroom sockets. Electrical faults identified in the unsatisfactory report will need to be addressed and remedied by a qualified electrician within 28 days. This is where working with Carlyia Ltd has its advantages, not only are we competent professionals who can conduct the initial EICR, our expertise and wealth of knowledge can be used to carry out repair work. We issue an EIC or Electrical Installation Certificate to confirm that work was resolved by a qualified electrician.
